Jean Jacques Kabuya
PRESIDENT
Jacques is the soul of Salt and Sear. He discovered a love for cooking at the age of 5 when he and his mother moved to Canada from Lusaka, Zambia. Jacques’ mother loved to cook, and would often be found singing and dancing in the kitchen, cooking up a storm before heading to bed after a midnight shift at 2. Jacques would awake to the intoxicating scents of her neighbourhood-famous South African sausage and eggs. From that early start, the love for good food and sharing that love with others grew into a passion for him. He has travelled the world, stepping foot on almost every continent in search of cultural flavours from around the world. He now brings that passion, knowledge and experience to every dish he creates for Salt and Sear today.

Janice Kabuya
VICE PRESIDENT
Janice is the heart of Salt and Sear. She takes pride in making sure that every event for every client goes off without a hitch, whether it’s for 5 people or 500. She and her husband Jacques are the perfect pairing. Her care and kindness and attention to detail combined with his culinary masterpieces have created a catering company that not only provides great food for any event, but ensures that every event is a show stopper.

Jessica is a dynamic team player who brings energy and passion to her role at Salt n Sear. As a mother of two, she understands the importance of work-life balance and strives to cultivate a positive, collaborative atmosphere in the office. With her natural abilities in planning and organizing, Jessica helps streamline operations and implement efficient systems. Her vibrant, can-do attitude is an asset to the company culture, making her a perfect fit for the Salt n Sear family. Jessica's dedication to creating a fun yet productive environment makes her an invaluable member of the team.

OPERATIONS MANAGER
Dan is a passionate chef who brings an engineer’s precision and problem-solving mindset into the kitchen. With years of experience in both engineering and the food and beverage industry, he applies a structured, methodical approach to cooking, optimizing processes to enhance efficiency and creativity. His background in managing food production and private catering has given him a deep understanding of operations, inventory systems, and quality control.
Beyond the kitchen, Daniel is an endurance athlete, training for Ironman competitions. This commitment to rigorous training has reinforced his appreciation for time management, discipline, and perseverance—values that translate seamlessly into his professional and personal pursuits. Whether designing innovative engineering solutions or crafting culinary experiences, Daniel thrives at the intersection of precision, passion, and performance.
